Story Development Draft
Setting/Story Summary
The story is set during the near
future, 2045. An unknown virus that only affected the wildlife has recently
been discovered but was not taken seriously at first, though many
had feared the worst. This caused distress through many countries but at a low rate. The select few were doing their best to avoid the virus fearing humans were going to catch this contagion, riots broke out. Yet this still didn't have a huge effect on how many of the countries confronted this virus. Once the virus easily spread across the world, habitats were changing, eventually the vegetation changed over time, causing concern across the world. In time the wildlife became mutated and extremely dangerous, cities became overgrown and the animals became much more abundant in every known country. This lead to riots, gangs, deserted cities and worldwide distress as mankind fought for survival. During this time many people from governments are finding ways to combat this virus and the mutations. It is during this time our main character, Jason Hunt, an athletic, 29 year old who was a bio- researcher prior to the outbreak was hired as a field researcher to find and gather evidence to help combat this mutations and eventually stop it, partially trained in military combat to protect their group. Jason has some survival skills but he is not a hero with amazing combat skills. Currently in the USA, Jason has been shipped everywhere, except the continent of Africa, which was determined as the most dangerous of the countries, not just based on the amount of mutated wildlife but because of the size of the continent, the area is believed to been the first place to be affected, after time the country was not allowed for trading nor any contact with the outer countries, this led to worldwide problems as people fought for their freedom and to aid them.
Jason is shipped off to the dangerous
continent in hoping to find if there is a possibility of the contagion starting
in Africa, in finding this, can possibly put a finish to the outbreak.
Accompanied by the military and other specialists to escort the field
scientists, all of which was taken across the sea. Debriefed and taken out to
the heart of African Savanah not all goes to plan for the researchers as they
were collecting samples in a river, a large (mutated) river Crocodile attacked
the crew cutting the number in half. Despite having high tech weapons, suits,
hazard suits were not enough for a superior animal, casualties were high after
killing the animal. Though encountering large aggressive snakes and other
rodents, made them wary, the group struggled killing the animal, however many
were split up during the contact, leaving Jason on his own. This is where he
begins his journey on finding his way back to camp. Encountering a near death
experience involving a Lion, waking it up, running and hiding. Eventually
coming across two members of the group, Jason is burdened with a tough
decision, not knowing what has injured one of the group members, he can either kill
him to prevent the possibility of bringing something into the camp and to put
him out of his misery, or help him back to camp with the other researcher. (In
Game decision). In this instance Jason and the other the other companion,
finally they find their way to the camp, they take the injured researcher to
the medic. In the end the injured researcher was killed, in case of any
possible problems down the line. Following from this, no initial data was found, meaning Jason was to go back to the
USA. Which
Recently named as head researcher and commander of a small security group that accompany him around different places, later Jason is found being taken to the Amazon rainforest, which again is classified a serious threat but many believe that this place will finally reveal what can be done to combat this virus, finally. Again confronting many dangers while researching such as large river snakes, overgrown spiders and countless more dangerous species made the time there difficult, giving Jason more problems along the line and making the tough decisions. After exploring through the huge and vast jungle the group, led by Jason, came across a large strange object that faintly pulsed green lights. Unknowing what the team has uncovered the leave the 'Artifact' where it was found and many more researchers came to examine the object, obviously a handful instantly assumed it was extraterrestrial, though many distributed it however this grew on Jason as he was open to different theories. After extensive and secretive research, markings and readings were found, which led to scientists having to assume it was from another world, now Jason was tasked to find out the answer to all the questions, how it got here, its it the cause, and if there was more to be found or if the owners of the artifact were on the way? Eventually more of these artifacts were found all over the world, leaving more questions than answers.
Whilst back at home in the USA, Seattle Washington State, the sky turned darker each day leaving many people worried to what the contagion has done to the weather itself, finally the answers came as the world catch a glimpse of what looked like large metal spears descending onto the Earth.
In a game concept, this story leads on to a second story/game which explains more further in depth and answers the hanging questions.
