Assignment 3: Unit 20
Task 1)
Mobile Gaming
Converting
the Game from a Windows PC platform to a Mobile device can be easily done
through GameMaker as it has an option to quickly convert the game by running
Java Scripts and other features whilst connected to the mobile device of your
choosing. For example, there are several mobile devices to convert the game to,
IOS for IPhone, Android and so on. In order to make the game screen fit each
mobile device the game will need to be adjusted by myself. Such as, changing
the pixel ratios to fit the game for each individual mobile phone (ideally a
5/6 inch display for both the Android phones and iPhone)
When
converting the game to a mobile based platform the Human Computer Interface
(HCI) would need to be considered. An example of this, the games buttons and
controls will obviously be touch controlled on a Smart Phone, this means the
buttons and controls need to be big enough for all players of my game, people
with larger hands may struggle to press certain buttons if they were too small
for them, leading to the game being unplayable at times. All the buttons need
to be correctly sized and need to be in good ratio with the Phone’s screen size
and resolution, including the ‘Exit’ button which will generally be smaller in
size but must be there otherwise the player will not be able to the menu
quickly with ease, without fully closing down the game another way. Obviously
when the game is being played on Windows it would require a Keyboard and Mouse,
with a phone that is not possible. Adapting the game to enable touch
capabilities is done by GameMaker automatically.
Android
Example:
Samsung
Galaxy S6/S6 Edge Tech Specs-
Proccessor: Octacore (quad 2.1GHz and quad 1.5GHz), Samsung
Exynos SoC
Screen Size: 5.1”
Memory: 32/64 128GB (ROM) + 3GB (RAM)
Screen Resolution: 1,440 x 2560, 576ppi (Gorilla Glass 4)
Task 2)
Web Gaming
With
my Blackjack game converting it to a web based game again can be done through
GameMaker, however little is changed with the game, such as the HCI and
resolution. If I were to convert the game now, I will do it for Google Chrome,
this is an obvious choice as it is more up to date than Internet Explorer and
will most likely be better to run the game with ease. Currently in GameMaker
converting the game into a web-based game is easy, easier than converting to a
mobile platform game, as the game size, resolution and other factors don’t need
to be considered for the game when converting the game.
Setting
the target to HTML5 will script the game for online, web-specific gaming. The
resolution and game size are not fully adjusted, the size needs to be adjusted,
and therefore the sprite size and background will need to change to fit my
preference and the web browser.
